Police Gym Facilities

In 2014 our force took the decision to embark on a project to install new gyms in 11 police buildings throughout the force area. This followed a report submitted by Hampshire Police Leisure & Sport.* The objective of this project is to provide a facility at key locations available to all staff to;
  • Support the force strategy of assisting staff to increase fitness levels and thereby help reduce levels of sickness
  • To assist officers with passing the Compulsory Fitness Test (CFT)
  • Create an aerobic based gym environment which will attract those who ordinarily may be put off by a mixed weights and aerobic environment, in particular female staff members.
Portswood gym is the first to open in February 2015 following a refurbishemnt of the building.  Others will follow in due course at all of the new main response hubs.

There are also gym facilities available now or planned in the future for staff at Netley, some shared use HFRS facilities and H3 at Mottisfont Court.

In order to use the new gym facilities staff need to be either subscribing to HPLS or the Police Federation.

Staff are required to have a short induction and sign a disclaimer prior to using the equipment.  Further details are available at the gym.

Each new gym will have a local point of contact who will monitor those using it.
