Sport Section - Golf
There are a number of golfing societies within Hampshire Police, but there is also an overall Force Section.

Three ‘major’ meetings take place every year; a Spring meeting, a summer Captains Day and an Autumn meeting. In addition to this, there are numerous matches throughout the year against teams from Hampshire golf clubs and other forces.
The major meetings are also often opportunities to qualify for Police Sport UK Regional and National competitions. There are many other long standing and prestigious Police events that are usually played at high quality courses/clubs all over Hampshire and the south east region, always for a fraction of the price of normal green fees. In addition, events include meals and great prizes.

Courses that usually feature on the Force Calendar include; Liphook GC, Royal Winchester GC, Basingstoke GC, Blackmoor GC, North Hampshire GC and many more.

In line with the recent arrangements of excellent corporate memberships to five Hampshire clubs by the Sports & Social Club, the section is now seeking to expand for 2020 and beyond.

We invite any Hampshire Constabulary staff of ANY golfing ability/handicap, who are not aware of us and who have not played golf with the Force Section or society within Hampshire Police before, to get in touch and join in. It will be a chance for many golfers to represent Hampshire Constabulary at matches, as well as to enjoy a great social and competitive scene. Again, golfing ability is not an issue!

Charity Day - Old Thorns
The charity we support had their annual golf day this week at Old Thorns near Liphook. Besides yours truly, we had some other Hampshire Police representation taking part; Ade Leese, Stuart Paton and Graham Fairley. ACC Stuart Murray attended in the afternoon. We also had some colleagues from Metpol come along too. My thanks to all for attending the day and flying the flag!
The day also sees the presentation of new wheelchairs to the kids and their families. Hampshire Police Golf has sponsored two chairs, one from last year and one this year. Last year we raised £2213.00 and this year we are already at £3138 ! The charity tops that up to buy the bespoke chairs for the kids.
Our 2020 chair was presented to young Sam, aged 15 (pictured with his father Paul below). Our 2021 chair was presented to Beau, aged 12 (pictured with her mum, Charlotte). Both chairs are custom made for each child depending on their individual needs. Sam has a simplier chair which he controls through servos on the wheels. Beau’s chair is very complex and has a control console that Sulu on the USS Enterprise would recognise! As well as zipping her about at some speed with a joystick, it lifts her up and down, adjusts rake, has lights, indicators, etc! Also pictured is ACC Stuart Murray who represented Hampshire Police Management team, Jackie Alliss (Peter Alliss’ widow) and of course, me. The other picture shows all the other kids and their chair sponsors.
To see these lovely children receive their chairs and to know, direct from their parents, just how much the new chairs will improve their lives, was beyond brilliant. So, thankyou to all of YOU who over the last two years now have supported the fund raising, through buying raffle tickets, bidding on the auctions, donating your 2’s winnings at events or even simply donating cash. This is the result!
Old Thorns was in superb condition and the best I have ever seen it. As a side note, I will be looking to book a big day here for us in September 2023 as we have been offered a ridiculously good deal where we might have 36 holes shotgun start and buggies for all too! More on that later.
Again, thankyou to all of you who supported a very, very worthy cause. I have already been scheming for next year, plans which include the possibility of a raffle for a Scottie Cameron putter….watch this space! Anyone who wants to know more about the charity or to donate anything for a prize or raffle, please get in touch!

Force Championships 2021
A lovely day at Hartley Wintney GC yesterday for this year’s Force Championships.
40 players ended up competing on the day. The food was nice and the course was great, although the greens had been recently worked on. The club did reduce the rate for the day in advance for this reason.
The day went well and I think we covered all the 2’s! Thank-you to all winners (there were 9 2’s scored, including Andy Venning who had two!) who generously gave up their £10 winnings back to the charity pot. Nearly £250 was raised yesterday from the 2’s, the raffle and other donations!!
Jackie Alliss (widow of the late, great Peter Alliss) dropped in for the prize giving and was glad to meet so many of you.
As per recent years, there were effectively two competitions running, a gross medal event for the Championship title and a separate Stableford.
Ali Charnley is this year’s Champion and the winner of the Kimber Trophy.
GROSS
1st : 69 Ali Charnley
2nd : 72 Andy Venning
3rd : 79 Ben Jacques
STABLEFORD
1st : 43pts Ali Charnley
2nd : 43pts Nickie Moreton (cb)
3rd : 39pts Will Gay
NTP’s : Nickie Moreton, Liz Williams, Jack Clayton, Jon Swift
2’s : Paul Fairley (yes, really!), Nickie Moreton, Andy Venning x2, Ali Charnley, Jon Swift, Dave Johnson, Matt Simpson, Wayne Thomas
Captain Martin Chudley won the raffle for the box of printed Titleist Balls and then auctioned them off for the Charity. Richard Longworth then stuck in a generous £50 for them, thank-you so much.
I have had a couple of messages about the format. We used to have just medal, gross and nett, but this put a lot of people off coming as not everyone likes medal play. So several years ago, I amended it to have the stableford and gross as then everyone still has a shot at winning stuff. They are treated as separate comps on the day. This does mean that the winner of won can win both comps when they have had a blinding round. As always, happy to have suggestions or feedback about our days. They are for you to enjoy.
I will send out to those who qualified for the 2022 Ello Ello Ello and the Scratch Nationals.
The invite for our last calendar event, the community match at South Winchester GC scheduled for 17th October, will go out later today.
